Gilda Costanzo was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She graduated
as an Advanced Guitar Teacher at the “Conservatorio
Provincial Juan José Castro” (La Lucila, Bs.
As.) She trained instrumentally with Professor Irma Costanzo
and in chamber music with Professors Ljerko Spiller, Pedro
Chiambaretta and Gerardo Gardini. She took postgraduate courses
with Abel Carlevaro, Miguel Angel Girollet and Eduardo Isaac.
She was awarded several scholarships by the “Asociación
Camping Municipal Bariloche”. In 1988 she was invited
by the
“Universidad Palestrina de Porto Alegre” and
the “Mozarteum de San Pablo” (Brazil) to participate
in the international seminar
of guitar in Brazil. She also took part in the seminars
of contemporary music given by Gerardo Gandini at the “Instituto
Goethe”
in Buenos Aires.

She performed as a soloist in a series of concerts organized in
the most important auditoriums in Buenos Aires: Centro Cultural
San Martín, Fundación San Telmo, Cámara de
Industria y Comercio Argentino-Alemana, Manzana de las Luces, Colegio
de Escribanos, Librería Española ( organized by the
Spanish Embassy), Museo de Arte Español “Enrique Larreta”,
Casa de Cultura de Olivos, “Teatro Roma” de Avellaneda,
Círculo Universitario de Avellaneda, Asociación “La
Scala de San Telmo”.
She
played with the Colón Theatre orchestra in the operas “Othello”
(Verdi) and “Bodas de Sangre” (J.J. Castro)
As
a member of several chamber groups, she performed a wide repertoire
from the Spanish, German and English Renaissance, from American
music of the 20th century, and also pieces by some Argentine composers.
In 1997 and 1998 she was invited to perform as a soloist with the
“Orquesta de Cámara de Morón” at the Morón
university, conducted by Professor Edgardo Cataruzzi, playing for
the first time the “Concierto en Re” (originally for
lute) by J. S. Weiss.
She
is a teacher at the “Instituto Municipal de Música”
in Avellaneda, the Conservatorio Provincial Alberto Ginastrera”
in Morón , and the “Conservatorio Provincial”
in San Martín.

She joined clarinetist Luis Slaby in a chamber duet to play
20th century pieces especially composed for clarinet and
guitar.
In 2001 they played “La Suite Spiegle” (for
the first time in Argentina) , a piece by the Japanese composer
Takashi Ogawa. They also gave didactic concerts in music
schools and in the most important halls in Argentina. Their
repertoire includes pieces from national and European folklore,
and the music of Buenos Aires (tango – milongas).
They recorded the CD “Oriente –Occidente”:
All
pieces from Eastern and Western cultures, merged in a musical
trip, have been selected in the hope that you discover the
unity of folklore in the midst of cultural diversity.
